Landmark Productions' world stage premiere of The Saviour by Deirdre Kinahan (Embargo) will be staged at Off-Broadway's Irish Repertory Theatre this summer.
Starring Tony winner Marie Mullen (The Beauty Queen of Leenane) and Jamie O'Neill (Staging the Treaty), performances are set to begin July 1 with opening night set for July 13 for a limited engagement through August 13.
Louise Lowe (The Book of Names) directs the two-hander, which casts Mullen as 67-year-old Máire, who wakes up on her birthday to enjoy a cigarette after recently being swept off her feet by a stranger. But when her son comes to visit, questions are raised about responsibility, trauma, and forgiveness.
The creative team includes scenic and lighting designer Ciarán Bagnall (Red), costume designer Joan O’Clery (Macbeth), and sound designer Aoife Kavanagh (Ghosts).
An Irish playwright, Kinahan most recently wrote An Old Song, Half Forgotten for actor Bryan Murray who is living with Alzheimer’s. It played a sold-out run at Dublin's Abbey Theatre with Lowe also serving as its director.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Saviour premiered via an online broadcast in 2021. This production is supported by Culture Ireland.
