The Fled has announced the return of its late-night play competition Serials. Cycle 7 of the series will be held in The Siggy March 23-25 and March 30-April 1 beginning at 9 PM.
The Fled’s resident company of actors, directors, and playwrights sort into teams which perform original short episodic plays. The audience votes for its favorite, which will then return with a new installment. Cycle 7 has been reimagined in order to prioritize BIPOC and queer artists.
Returning works are Madame Couché's Hot Tarts End the French Revolution for its ninth episode, written by Chloé Hayat; Catching Fire for its third episode, written by Allison Merkel; and MTV's Spookz! for its second episode, written by Josiah Thomas Turner. Full casting for this cycle will be announced at a later date.
Madame Couché's Hot Tarts End the French Revolution follows the title character, bawd of the second most profitable brothel in Paris, as she tries to regain customers during the French Revolution. But when Madame Couché co-founds a dildo operation, the streets of Paris turn bloody as the courtesans fight to become the most coveted prostitutes in Paris.
In Catching Fire, best friends Ivy and Percy are now high school sophomores. It's 2013, and new himbo heartthrob Alex has entered the picture. The work follows the trio in a diary confessional format through love triangles, pop culture, and teenage angst.
MTV's Spookz! follows business and life partners Shay and Oates as they film the pilot for their ghost-hunting MTV show in the country's third most-haunted roller-skating rink. When they end up trapped, they chances of surviving become more important than getting their show picked up.
SERIALS has been an ongoing offering from The Fled for over a decade. Alumni of the series include Jessica Darrow (Encanto), Asia Kate Dillon (Billions, Macbeth), Catya McMullen (Y: The Last Man, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), and Jenelle Chu (The Prodigal, Instinct).
Cody Hom is the designer, while Michael Ortiz, Dolores Avery Pereira, Kristan Seemel, and Elizabeth Spindler serve as producers.
