Weightless by indie rock band The Kilbanes opens its Off-Broadway premiere at WP Theater September 29. Featuring storytelling band members and husband-and-wife duo Kate Kilbane and Dan Moses, the musical began previews September 17, and runs through October 16.
Procne and Philomela have been separated, and the two sisters must travel across worlds to reunite. Based on the band’s theatrical concept album of the same name, and inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses, the work was previously adapted into a movie, which was streamed by WP Theater in 2021.
Director Tamilla Woodward helms the production which features an actor-musician cast including both band members. Kilbane plays Procne and bass, joined by Moses playing chorus and on keyboards, Lila Blue as Philomela, Kofy Brown playing Iris and percussion, Joshua Pollock playing Tereus and guitar, and Dan Harris on percussion. The entire cast reprises their performances from the filmed production.
The creative team is comprised of set designer Peiyi Wong, costume designer Dina El-Aziz, lighting designer Stacey Derosier, sound designer Joanna Lynne Staub, choreographer nicHi Douglas, and projection designer Johnny Moreno.
