Double-cast across gender, generation, each actor in Catch as Catch Can plays a parent and a child. The cast stars Cindy Cheung (Log Cabin, The Great Immensity) as father Lon Lavecchia and daughter Daniela, Jon Norman Schneider (Awake and Sing!, The Oldest Boy) as mother Roberta Lavecchia and son Robbie, and Rob Yang (Succession, American Rust) as mother Theresa Phelan and son Tim.
Set in a blue-collar New England town, the drama follows two familiesâthe Irish-American Phelans and the Italian-American Lavecchiasâas the prodigal son returns home for a holiday gathering. Two off-stage characters, who are Korean and Korean-American, impact the families as they face the weight of generational expectations.
Daniel Aukin directs the production, which features scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Enver Chakartash, lighting design by Marika Kent, and sound design by Bray Poor. Genevieve Ortiz serves as production stage manager, with Zach Brecheen as assistant stage manager and Eva Shannon-Dabek as stage management fellow.
The production will be holding the following accessible performances: ASL-interpretation at 7:30 PM November 15, audio description and touch tour 7:30 PM November 17, and closed captioning November 1-20. Assistive listening devices are available for every performance.
