Rehearsals are underway for The New Group's world premiere of The Seagull/Woodstock, NY. Previews begin February 7 at Off-Broadway's The Pershing Square Signature Center's Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre. The run, slated through March 26, will open February 28.
Starring in the production are Ato Essandoh (Jason Bourne, Django Unchained), David Cale (Lillian), Patrick Foley (Circle Jerk), Hari Nef (Transparent), Daniel Oreskes (Oslo), Parker Posey (Waiting for Guffman), Bill Sage (Aunt Dan and Lemon), Aleyse Shannon (Beauty), Amy Stiller (The King of Queens), and Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars).
Adapted from Chekhov and directed by Scott Elliott, The Seagull/Woodstock, NY follows a group of New York theatre people as they retreat to a house in the Hudson Valley hoping to get away from it all. But no matter what they wish for, they can’t seem to escape the ambitions, rivalries, and fragile egos that follow them everywhere.
The production will feature scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Qween Jean, lighting design by Cha See, sound design by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen, fight and intimacy direction by David Anzuelo, and casting by Judy Henderson. The production stage manager is Valerie A. Peterson, and the assistant stage manager is Stephen Michael Varnado.
The work reunites playwright Bradshaw and director Elliott, who previously collaborated at The New Group on Intimacy and Burning.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
The National Asian American Theatre Company production will give a world premiere to a new modern verse translation of the Shakespeare play from Andrea Thome.
