Casting has been revealed for the previously announced film adaptation of Brett Neveu's play Eric Larue, helmed by Tony nominee Michael Shannon (Long Day's Journey Into Night) in his directorial debut.

The cast, according to Deadline, will feature Tony winner Tracy Letts (August: Osage County, The Minutes, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Tony nominee Alison Pill (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Three Tall Women), Judy Greer (The Thing About Pam, Dead Accounts), Paul Sparks (Physical, Hedda Gabler), Annie Parisse (Clybourne Park, Prelude to a Kiss), Kate Arrington (Our Mother's Brief Affair, Grace), and Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, The Northman). Neveu penned the screenplay for the film, which is currently in production.

Eric Larue debuted at Chicago's A Red Orchid Theatre in 2002, where Shannon is a founding member.

The play was created in response to the 1999 Columbine High School shooting and follows the mother of a 17-year-old boy who shot and killed three of his classmates. She subsequently meets the mothers of the deceased boys and pays a visit to her son behind bars.

"Eric Larue has so much to say about our country, about the way we try to deal with the trauma of living here, which is so insidious because it does not present itself overtly in concrete terms most of the time," Shannon said in an earlier statement. "When I read the screenplay, I immediately knew I had to direct it. I saw it. I heard it. I could feel it. And I wanted to make sure that it received just the right touch in all its aspects, because at the end of the day, it is an extraordinarily delicate thing."

Brace Cove Productions' Sarah Green, Big Indie Pictures' Karl Hartman, and CaliWood Pictures' Jina Panebianco  produce alongside executive producers Jeff Nichols, R. Wesley Sierk III, Byron Wetzel, Meghan Schumacher, Declan Baldwin, and John D. Straley.
