It Turns Out That "Jurassic World" Is Inhabited by Broadway Stars | Playbill

News It Turns Out That "Jurassic World" Is Inhabited by Broadway Stars The blockbuster new science-fiction film "Jurassic World" is inhabited by almost as many Broadway veterans as it is by ferocious dinosaurs.

Released June 12 in the U.S., "Jurassic World" is the fourth film in a series that began with "Jurassic Park." All deal with the effects of cloning technology that allows scientists to bring back dinosaurs from extinction. The creatures are housed in a park on an island off the coast of Costa Rica, and somehow always wind up going on a rampage against their human re-creators.

Here are the Broadway credits of just a few of the leads:

B.D. Wong, who won the Tony Award for his performance in the 1988 drama M. Butterfly, plays Dr. Henry Wu, chief geneticist of the park. He's the only character to carry over into the new "Jurassic" film from the earlier ones.

The film's leading lady and park operations manager, Claire Dearing, is played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who appeared in many classical plays Off-Broadway and in the 2003 Broadway revival of Moliere's Tartuffe. She is the daughter of actor-director Ron Howard.

Claire's sister Karen is played by Judy Greer, who created the role of Jenny in the Broadway play Dead Accounts opposite Norbert Leo Butz, and has worked steadily in movies since 1998. Park security operations chief Vic is played by Vincent D'Onofrio, who appeared in many stage shows, starting with the 1984 Broadway drama Open Admissions. His numerous film and TV roles include "Full Metal Jacket," "Men in Black" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

The movie is directed by Colin Trevorrow.
