An industry reading of Tawni O’Dell's new play Pay the Writer is presented July 21.

Directed by Sheldon Epps, the Broadway-aimed comedy-drama features Tony nominee and Emmy winner Keith David (Jelly's Last Jam), SAG winner Bryan Batt (Mad Men, Sunset Boulevard), and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives) with Olivier nominee Kyle Scatliffe (Hamilton, The Scottsboro Boys), Miles G. Jackson (Chicken & Biscuits), Shireen Crutchfield (Dark Angel), and Stephen Payne (Of Mice and Men).

Pay the Writer delves into the dynamics of a unique 40-year friendship between a gay literary agent and a world-renowned African American novelist.

“Pay the Writer is a unique story, as it provides insights into the creative process of an artist. It allows us to view the heart, soul, triumph, and regrets that infuse a great writer's work. In addition to a wonderful script, we are fortunate to have an amazing cast attached to this project,” says director Epps.

Pay the Writer is presented by MMaxwell Media and Silver J. Management.
