The Broadway League has announced the appointment of Darrelle Johnson as Director of Diversity and Inclusion, effective June 4. 

Johnson most recently served as Vice President of People and Culture for Jujamcyn Theaters, where she led the company's inaugural fellowship and mentorship program. Johnson has worked in live entertainment, gourmet airline catering, and luxury hotels for over 20 years, and championed diversity, equity, and inclusion in her various positions. 

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Johnson attended Nova Southeastern University. She serves on the Black Theatre United Summit and its 7G Committee, and also volunteers locally with cultural organizations and at Lehman College’s School of the Arts.

Our commitment to continuing to promote equity and inclusion, creating a workforce reflective of our communities, and inviting audiences as diverse as the Broadway shows we present remains steadfast. Looking ahead, we aim to work with our members and partners to broaden our League initiatives and cultivate deep connections within our industry.” 

News of Johnson's appointment follows the resignation of the League's former Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Gennean M. Scott, and the stepping down of Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin—both occurred earlier this year. 

The Broadway League, founded in 1930, is the national trade association for the Broadway industry representing theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters, and general managers as well as suppliers of goods and services to the commercial theatre industry.
