The South Carolina New Play Festival has announced the casting for its inaugural season. Featuring Kate Hamill’s The Scarlet Letter by Kate Hamill; Dodi and Diana by Kareem Fahmy; From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler by Adam Ban-David, Christyn Budzyna, and Jessica Penzias; and Dragonsoul Offline by Samantha Miller, the festival will run August 12–14 in multiple venues throughout Greenville, South Carolina.
The festival will begin August 12 with a panel moderated by dramaturg Kimberly Colburn, followed by Kate Hamill’s The Scarlet Letter, directed by Shelley Butler. The company will include Kim Blanck as Hester, Thomas Azar as Chillingworth, Kelli Barrett as Goody Hibbins, Chip Egan as Mayor Hibbins, and Ayden Woo as Pearl.
August 13 will feature Kareem Fahmy's Dodi and Diana, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, and starring Peter Mark Kendall as Dodi and Rosaline Elbay as Diana. Later than evening, Adam Ben-David, Christyn Budzyna, and Jessica Penzias’ From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler will be presented as directed by West Hyler, and starring Liz Larsen as Mrs. Frankweiler, Anna Rae Haller as Claudia Kincaid, and Samuel Li Weintraub as Jamie Kincaid, with an ensemble that including Evan Harris, James Hester, Breosha Jeter, Gianna Marullo, Max Quinlan, Janise Robinson, and Waverly Speranza. Riley Fincher Foster and Colten Bruce round out the company as understudies.
August 14 will present Samantha Miller's Dragonsoul Offline, as directed by Jeffrey Lo. The production will star Dennis Cheeks as EPIC_KING323/Devon, Courtney Sims as Sade, Ali Bhamani as DUDE.ITS.HAMID/Hamid, Shaun Schneider as AJ, Jonah Collins as Noelle_Elil94/Tyler, and Jamaica Brewster as ZOMBIBOMBI/Goon.
The festival will close with a cabaret act featuring married couple Jarrod Spector and Kelli Barrett.
