A stellar company of Broadway favorites has been assembled to lead the Pasadena Playhouse's upcoming concert staging of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's Follies.
Leigh Silverman (Suffs) will direct Follies in Concert, which will be presented January 31–February 1, 2025, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
The cast will be led by Tony winner Rachel Bay Jones (Dear Evan Hansen) as Sally Durant Plummer, Tony winner Stephanie J. Block (The Cher Show) as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Tony nominee Derrick Baskin (Ain’t Too Proud) as Buddy Plummer, and Aaron Lazar (The Light in the Piazza) as Benjamin Stone. Additional casting will be announced.
Darryl Archibald (Some Like It Hot) will be the musical director for the concerts, which will feature a 25-piece orchestra. Casting is by Geoff Josselson Casting.
Follies is part of a two-weekend long special event that will follow three performances of Anything Goes in Concert starring Jinkx Monsoon and Wayne Brady.
Follies is set in a dilapidated theatre about to be torn down and features a score by Sondheim and a book by Goldman. The musical premiered at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre in April 1971 with a score that boasts such tunes as "Beautiful Girls," "Broadway Baby," "In Buddy's Eyes," "I'm Still Here," "Could I Leave You?," "Losing My Mind," and "Who's That Woman?" Among the original cast were Dick Latessa, Alexis Smith, Yvonne De Carlo, John McMartin, Gene Nelson, and Dorothy Collins. The musical won seven Tony Awards in 1972.
Follies is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
