Regional News The Griswolds’ Broadway Vacation Cancels Houston Run

Theatre Under the Stars has filled the vacancy with the regional premiere of The Secret of My Success.

Broadway-aimed The Griswolds' Broadway Vacation has cancelled its fall Houston engagement, previously set to begin October 25. The musical's world premiere engagement at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre remains scheduled to begin performances September 10.

Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) Artistic Director Dan Knechtges cited the "rising cost of materials" in a statement explaining the cancellation, released July 6. "The road to bringing a new musical to life always has some unexpected twists and turns, and that’s what is happening with the show," Knechtges' statement reads in part.

TUTS will fill their season's new vacancy with the regional premiere of The Secret of My Success in partnership with Universal Theatre Group October 25–November 6. Based on the 1987 film of the same name, the comedy musical previously premiered in Chicago. Featuring a score by Michael Mahler (October Sky, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Alan Schmuckler (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Kidding), The Secret of My Success also includes a book by Gordon Greenberg (Holiday Inn) and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen).

The Secret of My Success will be directed by Knechtges. Casting information will be released at a later date.
