Casting is now complete for Roundabout Theatre Company's New York premiere of Anna Ziegler's The Wanderers. The play will begin previews January 26, 2023, at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.
Directed by Barry Edelstein, the production will officially open Off-Broadway February 16 and continue through March 26.
Joining the previously announced Katie Holmes as Julia Cheever will be Sarah Cooper as Sophie, Lucy Freyer as Esther, Dave Klasko as Schmuli, and Eddie Kaye Thomas as Abe.
In The Wanderers Orthodox Jews Esther (Freyer) and Schmuli (Klasko) are newly married. Secular Jew Abe (Thomas) is a famous novelist who believes he can write his own future until an unexpected email from a movie star, Julia Cheever (Holmes), puts his marriage to the test.
The Wanderers previously played in Washington, D.C. at Theater J, where The Washington Post called it a "thoughtful, compassionate, funny play."
The Wanderers marks Holmes’ Roundabout Theatre Company debut. She made her Broadway bow in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons alongside John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson, and Becky Ann Baker. She was most recently on Broadway in Theresa Rebeck's Dead Accounts, opposite Norbert Leo Butz, Judy Greer, Josh Hamilton, and Jayne Houdyshell.
Playwright Ziegler returns to the Laura Pels following the 2017 New York premiere of her play The Last Match, which was directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch.
The upcoming production will also have sets by Marion Williams, costumes by David Israel Reynoso, lighting by Kenneth Posner, and sound and original music by Jane Shaw.
