The Verdict Review: What Are Critics Saying About Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, With Songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul?

With original songs from the Dear Evan Hansen writers, the musical comedy film adapts the children's story of the same name.

Reviews are in for Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, a musical comedy movie about the friendship between a young boy and a singing crocodile released October 7. Adapted from the children's story, the Will Speck- and Josh Gordon-directed film features a screenplay by William Davies.

Duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dear Evan HansenThe Greatest Showman) wrote original songs for the film, along with Ari Afsar, Emily Gardner Xu Hall, Mark Sonnenblick, and Joriah Kwamé. Matthew Margeson composed the score. Pop musician Shawn Mendes voices Lyle, and is joined in the cast by Winslow Fegley, Constance Wu, Javier Bardem, Brett Gelman, Scoot McNairy, and Lyric Hurd.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile follows Josh Primm, a young boy whose family recently moved to New York City. While struggling with his new home, Josh discovers in the attic Lyle, a singing crocodile who soon becomes his best friend. But Lyle—and their friendship—is threatened by Mr Grumps, a neighbor. Will the Primms band together to keep Lyle safe?
