Film & TV News Broadway Joins The Academy: Ariana DeBose, Paul Tazewell, Jeremy O. Harris Among 2022 Invitees

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 397 artists and executives to join the organization.

Is Broadway taking over Hollywood? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 397 artists and executives to join the organization, including stage favorites Ariana DeBose, Paul Tazewell, Jeremy O. Harris, and more.

DeBose, invited to join the Actors branch, kicked off last year's Oscars ceremony with a win for Best Supporting Actress following her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story.

Tazewell, who has been invited to join the Costume Designer branch, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for the same movie. Harris, playwright of the Tony-nominated Slave Play and scriptwriter for the 2020 film Zola, was invited to join the Writers branch.

Additional invitees include Broadway alum Troy Kotsur, who took home the 2022 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in CODA; Tony nominee and original Dreamgirls star Sheryl Lee Ralph; The Humans Tony winner Reed Birney; three-time Tony nominee Robin de Jesús; and Tony nominee Olga Merediz, who reprised her Broadway role as Abuela Claudia in the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights.

Additional stage and stage-adjacent names on this year's list of invitees include Jessie Buckley, who starred in West End's Cabaret, and Mitchell Travers, the costume designer for the In the Heights movie adaptation.
