Regional News World Premiere of Spanish-Language On Your Feet! Set for GALA Hispanic Theatre

Telling the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, the jukebox bio-musical opened on Broadway in 2015.

Washington, D.C.'s GALA Hispanic Theatre will present the world premiere Spanish-language production of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan en Español May 5-June 5. Mexican actor Gaby Albo will make her U.S. debut starring as Gloria alongside Venezuelan actor Samuel Garnica as Emilio.

Joining them in the cast are Fran Tapia Lobos as Gloria Fajardo, José Fernando Capellán as Jose Fajardo, Madelin Marchant as Consuelo, Gina María Fernández as Rebecca, Kamila Rodríguez as Little Gloria, and Winsley Dejesús as Little Emilio and Nayib. 

Rounding out the company in the ensemble are Luis Armando Benitez, Bryan Menjivar, Rodolfo Santamarina , Brayan Llamoza, Myriam Gadri, Amy Romero, Camila Cardona, Miranda Pepin, Jonathan Mousset, Carlos Adol, Hugo Brument, Grant Latus, Camila Taleisnik, Steve Orrego Upegui, Laura Castrillón, and Graciela Rey.

The production will be directed and choreographed by Luis Salgado, leading a creative team that includes music director Walter "Bobby" McCoy, scenic designer Clifton Chadick, lighting designer Christopher Annas-Lee, costume designer Jeannette Christensen, sound designer Matthew Rowe, projection designer Patrick Lord, and wig and make-up designer Lashawn Melto. Valeria Cossu will serve as assistant director, with Daniel Gutiérrez as associate music director, Heather Hogan as creative consultant, María José "Majo" Ferrucho as stage manager, and P. Vanessa Losada as production manager. Hugo Medrano produces.

On Your Feet!, based on the lives of seven-time Grammy winner Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, officially opened November 5, 2015, at the Marquis Theatre following previews that began October 5. When it closed August 20, 2017, the production, directed by two-time Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, had played 34 previews and 746 regular performances.

The musical features an original book by Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris and such hits as “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3,” “Mi Tierra,” and “Conga,” in addition to new music penned by the Estefans.

GALA's On Your Feet!, which will feature English supertitles, follows earlier Spanish-language productions of In the Heights and Fame.
