Shem Bitterman's The Stone Witch will play its final performance Off-Broadway at The Westside Theatre April 29. The Wonder Years' Dan Lauria stars in the new play about creativity, ambition, and the haunting power of the imagination.
Directed by Steve Zuckerman, The Stone Witch began performances March 12 ahead of a March 25 opening. The play was previously scheduled to play an open-ended engagement.
In The Stone Witch, Lauria plays Simon Grindberg, a veteran children’s book writer and illustrator who, in an attempt to reignite his creativity, is encouraged to collaborate with a talented young writer, played by Rupak Ginn. Carolyn McCormick (Equus) completes the cast as Clair Forlorni, Simon's agent.
The production features set and projection design by Yael Pardess and Brad Peterson, costume design by Mimi Maxmen, lighting design by Betsy Adams, sound design by Christopher Cronin, and original music composed by Roger Bellon. The production stage manager is J.P. Elins with assistant stage manager Michael Friedlander.
The Stone Witch is produced by Darlene Kaplan, Laura Janik Cronin, and Scott J. Newsome in association with Alec Seymour. The world premiere was produced at The Berkshire Theatre Group in association with Darlene Kaplan Entertainment and Brierpatch Productions in 2016.
