Happy Halloween from Playbill. In celebration of the spooky season, we gathered together some of Broadway's best to share the real-life ghost stories of Broadway's theatres.
Notorious for his dark and daunting roles on Broadway, including his current performance in his self-written solo show All The Devils Are Here, Patrick Page visited Playbill Studios to tell the haunting tale of one of the Belasco Theatre's most notorious ghosts: the spirit of David Belasco himself.
Home to the upcoming musical How to Dance in Ohio, the historic Belasco has long been haunted by its namesake theatre owner. Over the years, performers have attested to seeing a shadowy figure watching closely from the box seat during performances, and some even claim to have met and shook hands with the ghost, still dressed in early 20th-century attire. Belasco formerly lived in an apartment just above the theatre, where to this day, some say they can hear the shuffling of dancing feet along to old-time jazz. But when authorities have gone up to check the apartment for intruders, it is completely empty—the dust atop furniture entirely unsettled.
Still, Belasco's ghost is not the only phantom known to haunt the Belasco, and these are not the only tales that have been told. Watch the video above for the full story from a veteran performer who is personally acquainted with these stories.
