Theatregoers will now have extra time to catch the solo version of William Shakespeare's Hamlet starring Eddie Izzard, who triumphed last season with a solo version of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.

Izzard returned to the New York stage January 25, playing 23 characters in Hamlet at Off-Broadway's Greenwich House Theater. The production, which had been scheduled to close March 3, will now continue through March 16.

The solo show opened February 11. Read the reviews here.

The six-week engagement is directed by Selena Cadell. Mark Izzard penned the adaptation of the Shakespeare classic. The two also worked with Eddie Izzard on Great Expectations.

In a previous statement, the actor and comic (who portrays men, women, ghosts, scholars, tyrants, courtiers, lovers, fools, and poets) said, “I have always gravitated towards playing complex and challenging characters, and Hamlet is the ultimate. This is a production for everyone, a timeless drama with an accidental hero. Selina, Mark, and I want audiences to see and hear an accessible, touching, scary and dramatic Hamlet.”

The production also has set design by Tom Piper, lighting by Tyler Elich, costume styling by Tom Piper and Libby DaCosta, and movement direction by Didi Hopkins.

A Tony nominee for her performance in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Izzard was also seen on Broadway in Race. Her London stage credits include The Cryptogram, Edward II, 900 Oneonta, Joe Egg, and Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.

Hamlet is produced by WestBeth Entertainment, Mick Perrin Worldwide, and John Gore.
