The company of the upcoming Off-Broadway premiere of Anna Ziegler's play The Wanderers recently gathered to meet the press at Roundabout Theatre Company. The play, now in rehearsals, will begin previews January 26 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. Opening night is set for February 16.
In The Wanderers, Orthodox Jews Esther and Schmuli are newly married. Secular Jew Abe is a famous novelist who believes he can write his own future until an unexpected email from a movie star, Julia Cheever, puts his marriage to the test.
The cast includes Katie Holmes, in her Roundabout debut, as Julia Cheever, Sarah Cooper as Sophie, Lucy Freyer as Esther, Dave Klasko as Schmuli, and Eddie Kaye Thomas as Abe.
The upcoming production will have sets by Marion Williams, costumes by David Israel Reynoso, lighting by Kenneth Posner, and sound and original music by Jane Shaw. Barry Edelstein directs.
