Westway, a theatre music label, will release its inaugural original cast recording October 21: My Son's a Queer, (But What Can You Do?), written by and starring Rob Madge (Oliver!, Les Misérables). A few weeks earlier, on October 7, a digital release of the single "We Will Be Loved Anyway" will be available.

Starring on the single will be guest singers Jessica Aubrey, Kayla Carter, Pippa Cleary, Oscar Conlon-Morrey, Isaac Hesketh, Jordan Lee Davies, Carl Man, Vinnie Monachello, and B Terry. Physical copies of the album will feature bonus tracks and additional material.

Soon to play the West End's Garrick Theatre, My Son's a Queer transfers after a sold-out run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Performances for the strictly limited run will begin October 21 and continue through November 6.

The autobiographical solo show tells the story of raising a queer child with all of its joys and chaos, beginning with Madge at age 12 as they attempt to create a full-scale Disney parade in their house for their grandmother. It premiered in 2021 at Off-West End's The Turbine Theatre, where it also sold out.

Director Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, In the Heights) leads a creative team that features composer Pippa Cleary, orchestrator Simon Nathan, designer Ryan Dawson Laight, mixer Chris Fry, projection designer George Reeve, and video engineer Neil McDowell Smith.

“I am so thrilled that the music of My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) is going to be released in the form of this album," Madge said in a statement. "As an avid collector of every West End musical cast recording growing up, the idea that our songs will now be released not only digitally, but also physically, makes me so very proud. As well as the music of My Son’s A Queer, I am delighted to say this album will feature exclusive bonus content, including extended monologues from the show and audio from a personal favorite of the home videos that appear. These songs hold a very special place in the hearts of Pippa and I, and we have always dreamed of being able to share them—we never imagined we’d get to do it like this! I’m so proud to share with you all the extraordinary work of Pippa Cleary, Simon Nathan, as well as the exceptional talent of our musicians, engineers, mixers, and singers. I hope this album sings to that child within that fell in love with the art of theatre in the first place, and reminds you of the magic that can happen ‘when the stage is your living room’. Anything is possible!”

Formed in 2020, Westway has released music by Ramin Karimloo, Samantha Barks, Lee Mead, and more.
