On February 21, Hollywood mogul and Broadway producer J.J. Abrams stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Best known for helming the recent stream of Star Wars films, Abrams added Broadway producer to his resumé last spring with The Play That Goes Wrong.
The comedy that transferred from the West End is currently Broadway’s longest-running play. It’s a show-within-a-show, and (as the title implies) everything goes wrong: set pieces fall apart, leading ladies fall ill, sound cues are missed. Since its debut on Broadway, the British cast has been replaced with an all-new American cast, giving the show a fresh take.
After Abrams discussed the next in the Star Wars films, he invited Colbert to join him at the evening performance of The Play That Goes Wrong to see the new cast. Colbert asked if he could bring a friend. Abrams went on to invite the full studio audience to attend the performance at the Lyceum Theatre after the Late Show taping.
