International News Olivier Winner Jenna Russell to Star in London Premiere of Fun Home The Tony-winning Best Musical heads to the Young Vic in June.

Olivier Award winner and Tony nominee Jenna Russell will appear in the upcoming London premiere of Fun Home. Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron’s Tony-winning musical, based on the graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel, begins performances June 18 at the Young Vic.

Russell will take on the role of Helen Bechdel (played in New York by Judy Kuhn) in the Sam Gold-helmed staging. After winning an Olivier Award in 2006 for her performance as Dot in Sunday in the Park With George, she went on to earn a Tony nomination the subsequent Broadway transfer. Her additional U.K. stage credits include Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, Follies, and Grey Gardens.

Joining her will be Zubin Varla (the 1996 West End revival of Jesus Christ Superstar) as Bruce, Kaisa Hammarlund (Royal Exchange’s Sweet Charity) as Alison, Eleanor Kane as Medium Alison, Cherrelle Skeete (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Joan, Ashley Samuels (The Book of Mormon) as Roy, Mark and Jeremy, and Eleanor Kane as Medium Alison.

Additional casting, including the roles of Small Alison, will be announced later.

The musical will open June 27 and run through September 1. The Young Vic is currently home to the world premiere of Matthew Lopez’s The Inheritance, which celebrated its opening night March 28.
