Adam Bashian, Kim Blanck, Alex Gibson, Justin Gregory Lopez, J.D. Mollison, Margo Seibert, and Kuhoo Verma, along with understudy Nicole Weiss, reprise their roles from the show's 2019 Off-Broadway debut at Signature Theatre. Joining for the Berkeley run is Isabel Santiago and understudies Dean Linnard, Roeen Nooran, and Lili Thomas.
Anne Tippe will again direct, re-uniting the complete Off-Broadway creative team including music director Or Matias, scenic designers Amy Rubin and Brittany Vasta, costume designer Brenda Abbandolo, lighting designer Christopher Bowser, and sound designer Hidenori Nakajo.
For its Off-Broadway premiere, Octet received nine Drama Desk nominations and five Lucille Lortel nominations, including a win for Best Musical.
“Octet feels so relevant in this particular moment," said Berkeley Rep Artistic Director Johanna Pfaelzer in a statement. "We have had two years during which technology has been our lifeline, as we have navigated the physical isolation imposed by COVID. Octet helps us figure out a way to lean into the very human need to come together in shared spaces once again as the world reopens, at the same time recognizing the complicated and necessary role that technology plays in our lives. Dave Malloy and Annie Tippe have reassembled an extraordinarily talented cast and Berkeley Rep is honored that so many of the original company members are able to join us for this west coast premiere.”
