California's La Jolla Playhouse has announced the lineup of plays receiving readings at its 2024 Latinx New Play Festival, which will be held October 4-6 at the Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center. The Playhouse's Artist-in-Residence Dr. Maria Patrice Amon is producing the event.

Projects will include I never asked for a gofundme by Jayne Deely, MOTHER OF GOD by Ricardo Pérez González, The Man in the Maze by Oliver Mayer, and El Puente/The Bridge by Sandra Ruiz.

Originally launched in 2016 at San Diego Repertory Theatre, the Latinx New Play Festival is a celebration of new theatrical work by Latine playwrights from across the country, with the goal of expanding the presence of Latine stories and artists on the American stage. The four selected plays were chosen from a pool of over 150 submissions, and received development at the Playhouse ahead of the October readings. 

The festival is free to attend. Aside from the four readings, the weekend will also include panel discussions and other events.

“This year’s Latinx New Play Festival showcases another terrific lineup of new plays by an incredible group of playwrights," Amon said in a statement. "It’s wonderful to partner with the Playhouse to develop these new works and collaborate with artists from across the country to bring their scripts to life."
