House of Cards actor and Pulitzer-nominated playwright Eisa Davis and Community star Gillian Jacobs will lead the cast of Sarah Burgess’ Kings at the Public Theater Off-Broadway. Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail teams up once again with playwright Burgess (Dry Powder) for the world premiere about money, politics, and the state of the American republic.
Performances will begin January 30, 2018, ahead of a February 20 opening night. The limited engagement is scheduled through March 25.
In Kings, set in D.C., Davis will play Sydney Millsap, a representative whose high-minded principles clash with Kate (Jacobs), a whip-smart lobbyist who pulls no punches.
Jacobs returns to the Public following her performance in The Little Flower of East Orange in 2008, directed by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Davis’ Broadway credits include Passing Strange; and Off-Broadway she has appeared in Julius Caesar, Preludes, The Call, Luck of the Irish, and her own play, Angela’s Mixtape.
Completing the cast will be Aya Cash (You’re the Worst) and Tony nominee Zach Grenier (33 Variations).
The production will feature scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Jason Lyons, and original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones.
