The Berkshire Theatre Group revival of Mark Medoff’s Tony-winning Children of a Lesser God begins previews June 22 for a run through July 22 on the Fitzpatrick Main Stage at the Massachusetts venue.
Directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon, the production co-stars Lauren Ridloff (Wonderstruck) as Sarah Norman (a role that won Phyllis Frelich a Tony Award and Marlee Matlin an Oscar) and Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Smart People) as James Leeds, as well as John McGinty (The Healing) as Orin Dennis and Stephen Spinella (Angels in America) as Mr. Franklin, Kecia Lewis (Once on This Island, Leap of Faith) as Mrs. Norman, Treshelle Edmond (Deaf West’s Spring Awakening, Glee) as Lydia, and Julee Cerda (The Bloodline of Shadrick Grace, Passenger) as Edna Klein.
Broadway producer Hal Luftig is attached to the production, which may find a future life beyond its BTG run. In 2014 Luftig announced plans to bring Children of a Lesser God back to Broadway.
The play explores the relationship between an unorthodox speech therapist and one of his students, a young deaf woman hesitant to integrate herself into the hearing world.
Open Captioning is scheduled for every performance of Children of a Lesser God. ASL interpreted performances will also be offered on the following dates: June 24 at 8 PM, June 26 at 7 PM, July 12 at 2 PM, and July 21 at 8 PM.
