Long-developing Adam Guettel musical Millions will get a world premiere at Alliance Theatre next year, part of the Atlanta company's recently announced 2024-2025 season.
Based on the novel and film by Frank Cottrell Boyce, Millions follows two brothers who, while dealing with the loss of their mother, discover a duffel bag filled with cash. The work features a book by Bob Martin (The Prom, BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical) and music and lyrics by Guettel.
The project, being produced by arrangement with Sonia Friedman Productions and Franco Productions, will reunite Guettel with The Light in the Piazza director Bartlett Sher, who will stage the world premiere. Performances will run May 10-June 15, 2025.
The newly announced season also includes world premieres for Milo Cramer's Business Ideas, directed by Matt Torney and performing later this year November 16-December 15; Zora Howard's Bust (a co-production with Chicago's Goodman Theatre), directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz and running February 13-March 16, 2025; and Jake Brasch's The Reservoir (a co-production with both Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Geffen Playhouse), directed by Shelley Butler and running March 29-May 4, 2025.
Additionally in the upcoming season are new stagings of Katori Hall's The Mountaintop, directed by Tinashe Kajese-Bolden, running August 30-September 22 and Lloyd Suh's The Chinese Lady, running September 18-October 13.
