KARK CLENT (He/Him, 40s, open to all ethnicities) A man working as a reporter but secretly is the true identity behind SuperMale, a superhero who can fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes. [exhausted all the time, fear of heights, plant dad] He doesn’t feel he can trust anyone but other superheroes with his identity and secretly he just wants friends who understand him.

LATASHA MORMONOFF (She/Her, 30s, open to all ethnicities) A woman working as a baseball cap vendor but secretly is Purple Tarantula, a spy and secret agent who takes down bad guys stealthily. [An amazing singer, always wanted to be a pop star, has aches in all her limbs because she falls a lot.]

BRYCE WAX (He/Him, 30s, open to all ethnicities) not working because he’s a rich orphan but secretly is Wombat Man, a vigilante who protects the streets of Phoenix, Arizona. [Needs attention at all times, hates sharing toys, and is lonely.]

PATRICK POKER (He/Him, Mid to Late Teens, open to all ethnicities) A boy working a short shift at a pizzeria but secretly is your friendly neighborhood Cricket Boy, with his impressive hops, he keeps the neighborhoods of Aurora, IL safe. [has a failing grade in English and never has time to study for his comprehension quizzes because he’s so busy with the people commiting tax fraud. This genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist named Tiny Stork keeps offering to take him to space and he’s wondering how to get a restraining order.]

NARRATOR (Open to all ethnicities and gender identities) - Genderless, ageless and relatively unbiased but has a tendency towards sarcasm at the superheroes’ expense.

BRIAN (He/Him, Early 20s, open to all ethnicities) - FAKE IDENTITY: He had the idea for Superheroes Anonymous and put out flyers while drunk. To his surprise, it was a big hit and now he runs the meetings in the basement of the Pump It Up his mom owns and is getting service hours through his college. He actually has no interest in superheroes and would rather be at his frat so he tries to make the meetings end as quickly as possible. REAL IDENTITY: Tiny Stork’s son. Secretly taking all of the characters to space. Love & Gyros

JAMES MESCAL (He/Him, 40s, open to all ethnicities) a man living in New Buffalo, Michigan, a recent divorcee with a 9 year old daughter at home, Lana. He owns a small bookstore. He has a kind smile and a soft gaze. He’s a world traveler.

CECELIA BEAUX (She/Her, 40s, open to all ethnicities) a woman living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Married for 10 years. She works as an art teacher. She’s colorful, vivacious, and still bright-eyed.

WAITER (He/Him, 40s, open to all ethnicities) a man with a thick Greek accent.

CLAUDIA (She/Her, 60s, Open to all ethnicities) shrill and nasally. She is Andy’s mother, Cece’s mother-in-law.

ANDY (He/Him, 40s, Open to all ethnicities) Cecelia’s husband.

Family Fishing Trip

JENNY (She/Her, Mid to Late Teens, open to all ethnicities) smart, independent, and thinks fast in crisis. Has a strained relationship with her dad, who never acknowledges her accomplishments. Cares a lot for her brother.

SAL (He/Him, Early 50s) vaguely (but still strong) New York or Chicago accent. Often reminisces about the “good old days” and thinks that a man should be the head of the house. Has a strained relationship with his father. Loves his kids but doesn’t know how to show it, and can come off as very insensitive.

MIKE (He/Him, Mid-Teens, open to all ethnicities) extremely booksmart and techy. Embodies all of the “nerd” stereotypes and is not athletic, but doesn’t care about what others think of him. Can be socially oblivious at times. Always gives his dad the benefit of the doubt.

KING STEVE/STEVENSON (He/Him, Mid 20s, open to all ethnicities) runs a prank television show, has a californian/surfer dude accent. Doesn’t believe in consequences for his actions. STEVENSON: a park ranger who speaks in an overexaggerated Australian accent.

ACTOR (He/Him Mid 30s, open to all ethnicities) is an actor for KING STEVES epic prank tv show. Takes his job very seriously.

Casting Note by Kavin Moore, CSA

My goal is to create a warm and welcoming casting process. The team and I strive to lead with respect, kindness, and generosity. In regard to the character descriptions– they outline the characters as delineated in the script and in consultation with the creative team. They do not aim to be all-encompassing representations of who might fill these roles, and we aim for an expansive and deliberate casting process. We acknowledge that the characters in the script are traditionally presented as either male or female (using he/him or she/her pronouns). However, we warmly welcome submissions from individuals who identify as gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, or non-binary for the roles that resonate most with their identity. The character descriptions incorporate race/ethnicity as it is integral to their identities and portrayal within the narrative.
