The world premiere of Mister Miss America officially opens July 11, following previews which began July 6. The show—written and performed by Neil D'Astolfo—has been extended to play at Off-Broadway's Rattlestick Playwrights Theater through August 7.
Derek Tyler Taylor, played by D'Astolfo, is ready to claw his way to the top of the competition at the 86th Annual Miss Southwestern Virginia Pageant. But victory is hard-won, and Derek has to decide how far he'll go to earn the crown.
Tony Speciale directs the show, which features scenic design by Se Hyun Oh, costume design by Hunter Kaczorowski, lighting design by Travis McHale, sound design by Sun Hee Kil, and choreography by Christopher Campbell. TaTyana Smith serves as production stage manager, and Sheree V Campbell as assistant stage manager.
“It’s truly a dream to be returning to the stage with something so near and dear (and queer),” said D’Astolfo in a statement. “This character is very much the fierce and fearless friend or older cousin I wish I’d had growing up, and I’m so grateful to AFO for the opportunity to share his story and sensibility."
D'Astolfo developed Mister Miss America through the AFO Solo Collective. The production by All For One Theater is presented by special arrangement with Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
