The production would only play 11 previews and 48 regular performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Ashman received a 1987 Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
The cult classic, which kicks off J2 Spotlight’s fifth anniversary season, will also have music direction by Matthew Stern, choreography by Caitlin Belcik, set design by Ryan Howell, costume design by Paul Haesemeyer, lighting design by Christian Specht, and dramaturgy by Frederick Miller. Casting is by Holly Buczek of Wojcik Casting.
Joey Paradise will serve as stage manager and Maria Papadopolous as assistant stage manager.
Smile is presented through a special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
