The beloved composer, who turned 95 March 18, was one half of the landmark duo Kander and Ebb. Alongside Fred Ebb, Kander created the music for Cabaret, Flora the Red Menace, Zorba, Woman of The Year, The Rink, Steel Pier, The Visit, and of course, Chicago.
The revival of Chicago, which is nearing a 10,000-performance milestone, is the longest running American musical in Broadway history. To celebrate Kander's birthday, the company came together with Kander's good friend Lin-Manuel Miranda to perform the "New York, New York," one of the many indelible melodies written by Kander. The song was theme theme from Martin Scorsese's 1977 film of the same name starring Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro. Watch the video above.
