Pamela Berlin (The Cemetery Club) will direct the Pittsburgh Public production of The Humans, which spotlights the fears—real and imagined—as well as the betrayals of a family at Thanksgiving. The drama, which won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play, will be presented November 9–December 10 at the Pennsylvania venue.

The season will launch September 28 with the Tony-winning Peter Shaffer play Equus. Directed by Pappas, the story of a teenage stable hand who commits a terrible crime will run through October 29.

Also on the Pittsburgh Public slate: Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove, and Larry Gelbart's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, directed and choreographed by Pappas (January 25–February 25, 2018), Simon Stephens' two-hander Heisenberg (March 8–April 8), and William Shakespeare's Hamlet, directed by Pappas (April 19–May 20). An additional production will be announced for the May 31–July 1 slot.

The Pittsburgh Public Theater will also offer a special event, Gene Collier's Rocky Bleier The Play. Directed by Scott C. Wise, performances are scheduled for December 28, 2017–January 6, 2018. In this one-man play, Rocky Bleier, according to production notes, “shares the true story that took him from the football field to the battlefield and back—where he helped the Steelers to four Super Bowl victories.”
