The plays will each be produced over the next two seasons, with Miller's play Thieves receiving its world premiere at the Monroe Forum Theatre in North Hollywood, CA. The production will begin performances March 18, 2015, and run through April 4. Co-produced by Rising Phoenix Repertory, Weathervane Productions and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Thieves will feature MacLeod Andrews, Chris Bellant, Addie Johnson, Sarah Shaefer, Samantha Soule and Wendy vanden Heuvel in its cast. Here's how the production is billed: "In Thieves, a dysfunctional family gathers at the decaying East Texas estate of its matriarch to celebrate the wedding of her daughter and soon-to-be wife. Other family arrives trailing their own varied disarray, and the estranged father circles the proceedings, looking for a way in or a clean escape. Along with a hired hand, they each try to piece together the event itself, as well as some semblance of family, from their tattered emotional history."
"In championing new work by women writers, Rising Phoenix and Weathervane are establishing extremely rare long form collaborations — from commission to production — with a firm commitment to mount the plays before having seen a word," press notes state. "Another unique feature of the commissions is that they are company-based — each play will feature actors from Rising Phoenix Repertory's company, and its artistic director, Daniel Talbott, will direct all three plays."
Miller's plays include Barn, Worst Year Ever and Joan's Boutique, among others. Dickey wrote The Amish Project, Charles Ives Take Me Home and Row After Row. Shaefer's writing credits include The Gin Baby, I Can’t Explain It Better Than That and The Blow Job Injury.
