News Signature Plays Opens Tonight The Signature Theatre revisits the work of its legacy playwrights: Edward Albee, María Irene Fornés and Adrienne Kennedy.

Signature Theatre's production of Signature Plays, a trio of plays that revisits the work of Edward Albee, María Irene Fornés and Adrienne Kennedy, officially opens May 22. All three writers were previous playwrights-in-residence at the Off-Broadway theatre.

Directed by Lila Neugebauer, the featured plays are Albee’s The Sandbox, Fornés’ Drowning and Kennedy’s Funnyhouse of a Negro. Performances began May 4 and are scheduled to run in the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre through June 12.

The cast includes Nicholas Bruder (Angel Reapers), Crystal Dickinson (You Can't Take It With You, Clybourne Park), Tony nominee Alison Fraser (The Secret Garden), Pia Glenn (You're Welcome America), Ryan-James Hatanaka (Big Love), Mikeah Ernest Jennings (World of Wires), January LaVoy (Seven Guitars), April Matthis (Hollow Roots), Tony Award nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Fela!, The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek), Phyllis Somerville (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Tony winner Frank Wood (Signature’s Angels in America, Hughie). Melody Giron is on the cello.

The design team includes Mimi Lien (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume design), Mark Barton (lighting design), Brandon Wolcott (sound design and original music). Marisa Levy is the production stage manager. Casting is by Telsey + Company, Karyn Casl, CSA.
