Of course he was going to be there, but who knew Neil Diamond would appear in a box seat, mic in hand, to lead a singalong of his hit song "Sweet Caroline," a tune famous for its audience participation. That's what happened at opening night of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical December 4. Check out the video of the ecstatic crowd above.
The biomusical takes a look at the life of the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, accompanied by the soundtrack of some of his greatest hits, including the aforementioned "Sweet Caroline," as well as "America" and "Cracklin’ Rosie." Tony nominees Will Swenson and Mark Jacoby star as Diamond, with Tony nominee Robyn Hurder as former wife Marcia.
All songs in A Beautiful Noise are written or co-written by Neil Diamond with orchestrations by Bob Gaudio, Sonny Paladino, and Brian Usifer. The book for A Beautiful Noise is by Anthony McCarten, whose play The Collaboration is currently running at Manhattan Theatre Club. Tony winner Michael Mayer directs the production.
Also featured on the creative team are choreographer Steven Hoggett, scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Emilio Sosa, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Jessica Paz, and hair and wig designer Luc Verschueren. Music supervision and arrangements are by Sonny Paladino with incidental music and dance music arrangements by Brian Usifer, and vocal design by AnnMarie Milazzo.
