A number of stage and screen favorites will appear in the upcoming New Group production David Rabe’s Good for Otto. Rosie O'Donnell and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham are among the stars joining the previously announced husband-and-wife Ed Harris and Amy Madigan in the New York premiere.
Performances will begin February 20, 2018, at Off-Broadway’s Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre in the Pershing Square Signature Center. Opening night is set for March 8; the engagement is currently slated through April 1.
In addition to O’Donnell as Nora, Abraham as Barnard, Harris as Dr. Michaels, and Madigan as Evangeline, the cast will feature Rileigh McDonald as Frannie and Michael Rabe (playwright David's son) as Jimmy. Additional casting for the Scott Elliott-helmed production will be announced at a later date.
Harris and Madigan also co-starred in the New Group's Buried Child and the subsequent West End engagement, as well as The Jacksonian with the Off-Broadway company.
O'Donnell, a lifelong theatre supporter, returns to the New York stage after appearing on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof, Seussical, and Grease.
Rabe's play, which premiered at Chicago's Gift Theatre in 2015, explores the relationships between health professionals, patients, and families in a rural Connecticut mental health center.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
