Second Stage Theater has announced that the world premiere of Mother Play by Paula Vogel will delay its preview period by one day.
Initially set to begin performances April 2, the production will now begin April 3, prior to an April 25 opening night. The production will play Second Stage's Helen Hayes Theater, and will be directed by Tina Landau (SpongeBob SquarePants).
Mother Play will star Tony winner Celia Keenan-Bolger, Emmy winner Jim Parsons, and Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner Jessica Lange.
Set in 1962 on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., Mother Play explores the power family holds over us through matriarch Phyllis and her children, Carl and Martha, as they reckon with unpacking the past.
Mother Play will feature scenic design by David Zinn, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Jen Schriever, and sound design by Jill BC Du Boff. Casting is by The Telsey Office.
