Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Harvey may return to the screen. According to Deadline, Netflix is behind a new film adaptation of the 1944 comedic drama, with Shrek 2 writers J. David Stem and David N. Weiss set to pen the script. Fábrica de Cine will produce.

Harvey, about a man and his best friend—a pooka in the form of a towering, anthropomorphic rabbit, premiered on Broadway in 1944. It last appeared on the Great White Way in 2012 in a production from Roundabout Theatre Company starring Jim Parsons. A West End bow ran at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2015.

The first film adaptation premiered in 1950 with James Stewart in the central role of Elwood P. Dowd. A number of TV versions have followed in the decades since, and deals over another remake have been floating around Hollywood since 1996, with everyone from Adam Sandler to Tom Hanks attached.
