In collaboration with Boston's Company One Theatre, Oberon (the second stage and theatre club space at American Repertory Theatre) will present Tarell Alvin McCraney's Wig Out!.
The play from the Oscar-winning writer will be directed by Summer L. Williams. Performances begin April 26, 2018 and will run through May 13, 2018 at the Cambridge, Massachusetts theatre. Casting has not yet been announced.
Set in the world of competitive ballroom drag, the 2008 play follows opposing houses trying to out-walk each other, bringing to life the vibrant and defiant sub-culture of the early 2000s.
McCraney is a MacArthur Genius Fellow now best known for writing the story In The Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, which inspired the Oscar-winning film Moonlight. His critically acclaimed stage works include The Brother/Sister Trilogy, American Trade, and Head of Passes. McCraney assumed his new position as the chair of playwriting at Yale School of Drama July 1. As an actor, McCraney was inducted as a member of Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 2010.
