Savvy Shields won the title of Miss America 2017 after performing a jazz dance to “They Just Keep Moving the Line,” a song written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Charley and the Chocolate Factory) for the Broadway-based TV series Smash.

The song is from the series’ fictional show-within-a-show Bombshell, which is being considered for a real-life stage adaptation.

The 21-year-old Miss Arkansas also answered a question about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in the September 11 competition in Atlantic City, NJ. The performance counted 30 percent toward her win and the question added another 20 percent. Her title comes with a $50,000 college scholarship. She is currently a student at the University of Arkansas.
