Vineyard Theatre has announced its annual gala, which will honor Council Member Carlina Rivera and the late singer-songwriter Laura Nyro.
Scheduled for May 16 at the Daryl Roth Theatre, the evening will feature performances by Tony nominees Mandy Gonzalez and Judy Kuhn, and Tony winner Anika Noni Rose. The trio starred in the original cast of Diane Paulus and Bruce Buschel's 2001 musical revue Eli's Comin' which featured 19 songs by Nyro.
"Vineyard Theatre is an anchor of the Union Square community, where art and social consciousness go hand in hand," said Council Member Carlina Rivera. "As arts and cultural institutions citywide come back after years of pandemic closures and instability, I am grateful for the honor of this recognition, and humbled to share in this celebration of the music of Laura Nyro. Nyro was a fierce advocate for peace and women’s rights, and together we honor her memory in our fight for equity for all New Yorkers."
The gala will include cocktails and dinner at Boucherie, followed by an auction and performance at the Daryl Roth Theatre.
