Lucy Kirkwood’s timely drama The Children, which is currently playing on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre following an acclaimed run at London’s Royal Court, earned the U.K. Writers' Guild Award for Best Play.
The entire London cast transferred with the production: Francesca Annis (BBC’s Cranford), Olivier Award nominee Ron Cook (Juno and the Paycock), and Olivier Award winner Deborah Findlay (Stanley).
Also honored during the evening was prolific political playwright Caryl Churchill, who was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award. Kirkwood presented the Downstairs, Top Girls, Love and Information, and Cloud Nine playwright with the honor.
