The Ciarán O’Reilly-directed Love Letters returns to the Irish Repertory Theatre September 5 for a star-studded encore run through October 1.
Pulitzer Prize finalist A.R. Gurney's dramatic play following two friends exchanging letters over a number of years had a sold-out run last spring starring Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti at the Off-Broadway venue. O’Reilly returns as director.
Broderick and Talia Balsam will open the encore engagement as Andrew and Melissa in a limited run September 5–8. Victor Garber and J. Smith-Cameron will perform September 19–24, and John Slattery and Brooke Shields will close the show September 27–October 1.
The first production of Love Letters opened Off-Broadway in 1989. Decades later, it remains a timeless two-handed exploration of love and companionship through two friends, Andrew and Melissa, who write to each other throughout their childhood, teenage years, college years, their careers, and their marriages.
