Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamiltoncomposer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda has found his next stage project.
Miranda, who provided additional lyrics this past season for the recently shuttered John Kander and Fred Ebb musical New York, New York, is at work on a stage musical version of Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel The Warriors, according to Variety.
Spotlighting a New York City street gang framed for the murder of a
gang leader, the novel was adapted for the screen in 1979 in a film
directed by Walter Hill. The motion picture featured a screenplay by Hill and David Shaber and a cast led by Michael Beck, James
Remar, and Dorsey Wright. Although not a musical, the movie did include
songs by Joe Walsh, Arnold McCuller, and Barry De Vorzon.
No other details about the stage project have been reported.
Miranda is the recipient of four Tony Awards: Best Original Score for In the Heights and Hamilton, Best Book of a Musical for Hamilton, and a Special Tony for Freestyle Love Supreme.
