Scorsese and musical theatre? Yup. You read correctly.
For the Record: Scorsese – American Crime Requiem will ignite the stage of Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, CA September 21 to October 16. The concert mash-up features songs from the soundtracks of movies by iconic filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
The show features characters from his Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street and more, as the audience visits “Marty’s Place” and settings like a Lower East Side dive bar, an Italian restaurant, a Vegas casino and more.
The cast includes Tony winner John Lloyd Young (Jersey Boys), Tony nominee Carmen Cusack (Bright Star), American Idol alum Pia Toscano, Grammy nominee B. Slade, as well as James Byous, Lindsey Gort, Dionne Gipson, Olivia Harris, Doug Kreeger, Justin Mortelliti, Jason Paige and Zak Resnick.
Co-creator Anderson Davis directs the production. Scorsese himself has worked on Broadway before. He directed the 1977 play The Act, which starred Liza Minnelli at the Majestic Theatre. Minnelli won a Tony Award in 1978 for her work in the show. The production earned six nominations in total.
