The American Theatre Wing's 2024 Gala Celebration is just over the horizon, and an all star team of performers have been tapped for the event.
Held September 9 at Cipriani 42nd Street, the gala will feature performances from Tony nominee Jenn Colella (Come From Away, Suffs), Drama Desk winner Michael Urie (Once Upon a Mattress, Ugly Betty), Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Spamalot), Nikki Renée Daniels (Once Upon A Mattress), Tony nominee Brody Grant (The Outsiders), Tony winner Matt Doyle (Company), Tony nominee Amber Iman (Lempicka), Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles (Sweeney Todd, The King and I), Tony nominee Joshua Henry (Into the Woods, Carousel)and Tony nominee Eli Gelb (Stereophonic).
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response toward last year’s “Unsung Heroes of the Theatre Industry” theme for the evening, the gala will once again have each stage star shine a spotlight on their own personal Unsung Hero. From dressers who execute seamless quick changes to makeup artists responsible for the flawless faces seen on stage, the 2024 Gala will celebrate members of the theatrical community who often go unrecognized.
All of the proceeds from the Gala will go to the American Theatre Wing’s variety of programs, including The Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative, The Jonathan Larson Grants, National Theatre Company Grants, The Playreaders Club (in partnership with The Drama Book Shop), and producing ATW’s Emmy Award nominated Working in the Theatre Series.
The black tie gala celebration will include cocktails and dinner in addition to the performances. Produced by Staci Levine, the concert program will be led by music director Benjamin Rauhala. This year, the Wing will also be hosting a digital auction on Charity Buzz, that will launch on September 5 and continue through September 19.
The American Theatre Wing—founder and co-presenter (with The Broadway League) of the Tony Awards and the home to the Obie Awards—is a not-for-profit organization founded on the eve of America’s entry into WWI by seven suffragists and theatre makers to support the nation by harnessing the power of theatre. ATW’s work continues to be driven by the belief that theatre is essential to the economic, educational, and social and emotional well-being of society.
