Michele A. Miller's A Final Toast—which explores the complex dynamics when daughters care for mothers with dementia—will play a limited engagement at the Chain Theatre on West 36th Street next month.
Directed by Kathy Curtiss, performances are scheduled for May 10–26.
The four-character play will feature Jana Robbins (Gypsy, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife), Jolie Curtsinger (FBI), Diane J. Findlay (Sister Act, Fish in the Dark), and Sachi Parker (Star Trek: The Next Generation).
A Final Toast follows two older women, one Jewish, one Irish, who are helped by their adult daughters to clear out their homes before moving to a Senior Living Center, where they become friends and uncover an encounter they had years earlier—one that had major consequences for their future lives.
The production will also have costume design by Peter Fogel, projection and sound design by Rychard Curtiss, set design by Maya Alschuler-Pierce, lighting design by Spenser Giles, and voice and dialogue coaching by Steven Rimke. The stage manager is Gabby Macallister.
Earlier
drafts of the play had readings by The Dramatist Guild, New
Perspectives Theatre, Round the Bend Theatre, and Bedford Playhouse.
Renaissance Now Theatre & Film produces the upcoming run.
