Tony winner and two-time Oscar nominee Ian McKellen will return to Broadway this fall for a one-night-only benefit performance of Ian McKellen On Stage: With Tolkien, Shakespeare, Others …And You! The Broadway performance, which will benefit the nonprofit theatre organization Only Make Believe, follows a sold-out tour of over 80 theatres throughout the U.K.
Directed by Sean Mathias, Ian McKellen On Stage: With Tolkien, Shakespeare, Others …And You! will be at the Hudson Theatre November 5. All proceeds will go to Only Make Believe, which creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals, care facilities and special education programs throughout the New York and Washington, D.C., metropolitan areas.
“This year I’ve been having the time of my life, touring my new show across the U.K. Now it will be an extra treat to return to Broadway, 50 years after my debut in NYC, especially as it will benefit the inspirational work of Only Make Believe. Please come and help me celebrate!” said McKellen in a statement.
McKellen was last seen on Broadway in the 2013 repertory productions of No Man's Land and Waiting for Godot. He is a Tony winner for his performance in Peter Shaffer's Amadeus.
