Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Lucas Hnath’s Hilary and Clinton, which will begin performances May 1 at the Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago.
Hnath – whose play The Christians recently played an acclaimed engagement at Playwrights Horizons – pens the new work about a woman named Hillary, who is running for president. Directed by VGT’s artistic director Chay Yew, the cast features Cheryl Lynn Bruce as Hillary, John Apicella as Bill, Keith Kupferer as Mark and Juan Francisco Villa as the other guy.
“Imagine that in an alternate universe, very much like our own, is another world where a woman named Hillary is trying to become president of a country called the United States of America,” states an online description of Hillary and Clinton. “In a hotel room in New Hampshire in 2008, Hillary is poised to lose her last Primary Election. When her husband Bill arrives in the middle of the night to offer support, he turns the campaign upside down.” Performances are scheduled to run in Chicago through May 1.
Hnath’s Red Speedo is currently running Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop.
